One Year of Barre Eat Repeat! Celebrating Milestones with a Paleo Spinach and Artichoke Pizza
Guess what?! Today is the one year anniversary of the launch of barreeatrepeat.com!! Last year, I resolved to have things up and running by the beginning of July, which was probably a bit overambitious (story of my life), so although I did post my very first entry on the first, I didn’t actually tell anyone about the blog until the 13th so that I could have more than just the one page up for viewing. Plus I was NERVOUS. This whole thing has been a big experiment in being more vulnerable. Writing the blog has provided me with an opportunity to share some personal confessions and has provided an open…

What I Read Last Month :: June
June marked the last official month of my year long Happiness Project! Time actually does fly and very sincerely, this has been one of the most impactful and biggest learning experiences of my life. I plan to do a full recap of some of the highlights and best outcomes in the near future, but as things are winding down I decided to read all the remaining books on my shelf about happiness in particular. And that included a pile of ones which I have been very excited about, but was saving for the grand finale! Here's what I read throughout the month of June ::

Overcoming the WTH Effect with a Whole30 Smoked Salmon Stack on Sweet Potato Toast
So there's failing, and then there's failing big. And let's just say, when I do go wrong, I often do it BIG. And it ain't pretty. I'm feeling like I'm finally caught up now, but just recently there were a few consecutive weeks which were extra hectic with a lot of deadlines and time intensive deliverables plus an inordinate amount of "little things" here and there which just required a lot of time. It was one of those months in which everything that had to be done was just barely getting done at the last possible moment and anything else was moved to the backburner. The lack of downtime was…

Plan it in, Do it Anyway: Checking off the Summer Goals with a Whole30 Green Gazpacho
LOVE SUMMER! It's been a fun and fabulous couple of days - the weather couldn't have been too much better and Jon and I had time over the weekend to cross off a few of the Summer Bucket List items! We both have pretty full agendas with some impending travel over the next couple months and since planning is my favorite sport, we had spent some time a few weeks ago to map out tentative dates, book events, buy tickets, etc. for the fun things we wanted to do. I've learned that for me at least, it's important to schedule in time not only for the serious and work related…

Considering “What Went Well” and a Whole30 Blackened Tilapia with Cherry Salsa
If you are familiar with traditional applied psychology, therapy, or counseling, you may be aware of the fact that there are several different protocols, or interventions, which may be employed to reduce the patients' negative symptoms depending upon the presenting problem. Although Freudian psychoanalysis is not generally leveraged or deemed effective these days, many other forms of treatment, such as cognitive behavioral therapy has been shown to be effective at reducing symptoms of mood disorders such as depression or anxiety. However, throughout his practice, Dr. Martin Seligman, former president of the APA, founder of positive psychology, and someone whose research has had tremendous impact on my own life over the…

Never Stop Learning! Another Pilates-Filled Weekend
I am not too much of a video game player, but I when I was a little girl I remember vividly the year that my parents bought my sister, brother and I our first Playstation and the original Crash Bandicoot game. We were instantly hooked and it was something fun we could all do together. We worked as a team to advance through the levels slowly, teaching each other the hacks and route as we went along and taking turns whenever one of us lost a life. And especially in the beginning that was often, so the remote was constantly being passed around! It took a long time, probably over…

Paleo Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake in Honor of My Sister
It's been almost a month since we added to our family! After losing our sweet little Kiely, we realized how much Coco appreciated having a playmate, so we decided to adopt another miniature Yorkshire puppy - Lulu! As is the case with these kind of things, there has been an adjustment period, but the two of them are mostly just excited to be around each other. That's especially true for Lulu who is OBSESSED with Coco - she's really too small to walk on a leash as of yet so we carry her in our arms, but she positively loses it if she can't see her sister at any stage while…

Home Cardio Barre Workout
If you've been in any of my barre classes lately, you've probably noticed - they're getting a bit sweatier! That's not only due to the nearly suspiciously nice weather we've had in Cork lately, but also because I've been trying to incorporate a bit more HIIT-type, cardio bursts either on the mat or at the barre as of late. For some reason, it just seems seasonally appropriate - and it's a lot of fun! You get your heart rate up, releasing an extra little rush of endorphins on top of the already euphoric experience of barre, and well, it's addictive! And so I've been doing my own home cardio barre…

Know Your Purpose + a Whole30 Strawberry Walnut Salad
It's important to know your purpose. This is true on a large scale of course, but I acknowledge that might be slightly too big a topic to cover right here and now. I mean it in a more temporal and specific kind of way which I was reminded of earlier this week. On her podcast, Happier, Gretchen Rubin and her sister Liz Craft discuss ways to live a happier, healthier, and more productive life. One of the things that I really appreciate about the podcast and Rubin's approach in general, is that she is very good at making the esoteric, transcendental, or very aspirational more practical and tangible. In this…

Push Yourself! Taking on a Challenge Builds Self-Efficacy :: Whole30 Burgers with Sundried Tomato and Basil Artichoke Sauce
Today is a very exciting day because it marks Day 31 for the rockstars of my very first Flex in the City Studio Whole30! They did it! And I couldn't be more impressed or happier with how well so many of them did. They committed to the program, changing not only what was on their plate (which was hard!) but also they committed to changing their habits and their relationship with food (which is HARDER!). If you heard or saw the physical changes that they've experienced, you'd be pretty darn impressed. And when you consider the psychological side of what they have done, you'd be positively blown away. Yes, sticking…
